The persistent problems of thrown away rubbish have been highlighted in images released by a council in an effort to shame litter bugs into using bins.

Diss Town Council said its staff members face recurring problems with litter despite appeals for people to dispose of their waste responsibily.

To illustrate the problem it has released images taking in Diss Park that show disgarded rubbish in a shelter that is popular with teenagers.

A council spokesman said: "Unfortunately, littering is a reoccurring problem in the town and is frustrating for our maintenance staff who work very hard to make sure council-owned sites are clean and tidy for residents to enjoy.

"These images were taken on the park near to the Pavilion. It is a shame that these individuals could not place their rubbish in the empty litter bin right next to the Shelter Pod.

"Please make sure all rubbish is placed in the bins provided so that others can enjoy using the space."
