A decision over the future of new play equipment in Wymondham has been deferred until early next year.

In October, councillors proposed moving some of the £75,000 equipment on King's Head Meadow elsewhere in the town after they received complaints over noisy children.

Those living behind the park, which was built at the start of September, said that noise from children and teenagers often continued late into the night.

A working group was formed and at a town council meeting last night councillors voted unanimously to defer the decision on whether to remove or replace equipment until noise surveys had been completed by South Norfolk Council in better weather.

Councillor Christine Buckton said that there would have already been noise coming from the land, which is the town's football pitch. 'It is a public space – surely there has to be some acceptance from the residents that there will be noise,' she added.

Councillors agreed that signs would be built to request consideration to neighbours and that a picnic bench situated near the houses would be moved further away from the property boundaries.

Councillor Mike Gibbins said that a decision could not be made until survey results had been carried out.

'By their own admission there has been no survey done. We don't know there is a proven issue yet,' he said.

The issue of privacy was also raised, with some residents saying that people standing on the play equipment were able to see into their properties.

One woman, who did not wish to be named, said that it was an 'incredibly frustrating' result.
