An initiative to reduce food waste and strengthen community bonds is coming to a north Norfolk town.
A community fridge, where surplus food is shared between people by businesses and individuals, will open in North Walsham on September 19.
It will be open from 10am to 2pm on weekdays to enable residents and businesses to share surplus food and for anyone to help themselves to quality food that would otherwise be wasted.
North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) is calling all food businesses/allotment holders in North Walsham and surrounding areas to donate surplus food from September 19 onwards.
Nigel Lloyd, NNDC's portfolio holder for environment, said: "Following on from the successful Fakenham community fridge, it is hoped that the North Walsham scheme will replicate their success. Community fridges help to minimise food waste and therefore reduce waste to landfill."
The fridge will be in Cafe Kitale, St Nicholas Road.
