People are being offered the chance to sponsor a part of a revamped park and become a part of its history.

The £190,000 makeover at North Lodge Park in Cromer will link the neglected, disconnected upper lawn via a new bridge with the main part of the park.

The revamp will see the replacement of the existing bridge and the construction of a 60m ramped zig-zag walkway.

Planning permission for the 'playful connection' project was approved in February, and outline terms for a 10-year lease have been agreed.

At the Friends of North Lodge Park's annual general meeting on Wednesday, April 24, details of the project will be presented and there will be an opportunity to discuss the plans with the project team.

A public appeal will also be launched to give the community the opportunity to sponsor their own part of the project.

A limited number of the planks, which form the new bridge, will be available for sponsorship – with a four inch by two inch brass plaque carrying a personal three-line inscription of about 10 words – for £90 at the meeting. The first one has already been sold.

Samantha Annison, chairman of the friends, which was formed in 2015 to protect, enhance and promote the park, said: 'Through the commitment of the community, and a significant contribution from Cromer Town Council, over half the money is in place.

'We we will be looking for grants to cover much of the shortfall. However, there is a need for further public contributions to make the project a reality.

'It won't be a traditional AGM, more a review of the year, a chance to get together to discuss the park and to look ahead.'

The new wheelchair accessible bridge at the park will incorporate a viewing platform, seating and play elements.

The park was created in May 1929 and is celebrating its 90th anniversary in May this year, and it is planned that construction might start as part of the celebrations.

The community hall is still out of action, so the AGM will be held in the parish hall at 7.30pm.
