Sir Henry Bellingham has backed a bid for deregulation for society lotteries claiming the move would benefit 'good causes' in Norfolk.
At present society lotteries, unlike the National Lottery, have limits on their prizes which Sir Henry believes is hampering their ability to raise money for charity.
The South West Norfolk MP said in a speech in Westminster Hall: 'They deserve to have the chance to move up a gear, to increase their sales and their prizes and do more for those good causes around our constituencies. What I am asking for is very simple: I want to see some deregulation take place.
'I want to see the annual turnover limit increased from £10million to £100m and I'd also like to see and prize limit raised to £1m.
'We are not talking about the kind of prizes that would change people's lives in the way National Lottery prizes can but it would make the draws much more attractive.'
