More than 800 plants were found following a raid at a cannabis factory in Bungay, police have revealed.

The cannabis farm at a former cigar storage building in Nethergate Street was raided by police on Saturday afternoon, leading to the arrests and charging of two men.

A spokesman for Suffolk Police said the value of the plants is still unknown.

A police scenes of crime officer examined the sealed-off building yesterday, which is surrounded by homes, and a structural engineer from Waveney District Council was called to inspect the building and make sure it was safe.

Police raided the building after receiving information from a member of the public.

Officers arrested one man at the scene and then in the early hours on Sunday police arrested another man at a property in the town at Earsham Street.

The men, Sy Thuong Nguyen, 25, and Huan Van Chu, 18, appeared at Ipswich Magistrates' Court yesterday charged with one count each of producing cannabis.

Both men, who spoke through a Vietnamese interpreter, entered no plea during the hearing and were remanded in custody to appear at Ipswich Crown Court on May 16.
