A DAY of action by police in Lowestoft has resulted in three people being arrested and drugs, cash and property being seized.

Officers carried out a numbers of warrants and searched homes and business premises across the town yesterday (Wednesday, November 21).

Among the items found by police were laptop computers, tools, other electrical items and a cycle that are thought to have been stolen, counterfeit passports and a quantity of drugs including cocaine, Ketamine and cannabis.

Twenty-five officers, including the Lowestoft-based Territorial Support Team, their Ipswich and Bury counterparts, five dog handlers and response and Safer Neighbourhood Team officers from the town, carried out the warrants.

At Beresford Road a 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of cocaine with intent to supply after a quantity of the drug was found at the home. Officers also seized cash and scales and interviewed the 40-year-old before he was bailed to return to police on January 23, pending further inquiries.

A 56-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis during a raid at Alma Road. He was later charged with one count of possession of cannabis and cannabis resin and bailed to appear at Lowestoft Magistrates Court on December 18. He was also arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods after five laptop computers, power tools and other electrical items were found at the address and he has been bailed to return to police on December 12 in connection with this.

At Cambridge Road a 50-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled drug after officers discovered a white powder at the premises, believed to be Ketamine, and a small amount of cannabis. A mountain bike that is thought to have been stolen was also seized. The 50-year-old man has been bailed to return to police on December 7.

A 42-year-old man was also given a warning for cannabis possession after a warrant at a home in St Johns Road and warrants were also carried out at Kirkley Run, Claremont Road and Trinity Road – with false passports and driving licences found at the Trinity Road premises.

Det Insp Angus Moir, who co-ordinated the operation, said it had been a success.

He said: 'We are very pleased with how the day went with a number of arrests and significant finds. Officers are now carrying out more inquiries, and intelligence gathered during the operation will help us as we continue to target those involved in the supply of drugs and suspected of handling stolen property in the town.'
