Six people have been hurt, including one with life-threatening injuries, in a collision involving a bus and a car.

Police say it happened on the A149 at Old Hunstanton Road just before 1.30pm.

The bus was travelling towards Hunstanton, while the 4x4 was travelling in the opposite direction when the crash happened.

The main road is currently closed at the junction with Church Road, near the Caley Hall Hotel and diversions are in place. Police are urging drivers to avoid the area.

In a statement, Norfolk police said: "Six people are reported to have been injured in the collision, including one with suspected life-threatening injuries.

"A number of road closures are in place, including at Church road, Old Hunstanton Road, and Hunstanton Road, at junctions with the A149. Diversions are in place, however the road closures are likely to continue into the evening."

It is not clear which vehicle the person with what were described as possible life-threatening injuies had been travelling in.

It is also not yet known how many passengers were on the red bus, which was running on the Coastliner route between Wells and King's Lynn.

An air ambulance landed in one of the fields adjacent to the road and a police drone was seen circling the area.

The bus involved is run by King's Lynn-based operator Lynx Bus, which declined to comment.

Earlier the firm posted on social media it was currently unable to serve Old Hunstanton.

The crash happened at a spot where the main road narrows as it crosses a stream between Caley Hall and the turning for Ringstead.

One woman living nearby said: "I just hope the bus driver's alright. I know all the drivers because I use that bus a lot, they're such careful and considerate drivers and all really nice."

Police vans were used to ferry those involved up to The Lodge hotel, where they will be spoken to by police before being put on a relief bus to continue their journeys.
