Police have today closed their investigation into the death of Norwich man, William Phillips.

Thirty-four-year-old Mr Phillips, of Derby Street, died following an altercation near to the doctors' surgery in Oak Street, Norwich, which took place at about 8.50am on Wednesday, July 18.

He received initial treatment at the surgery and was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

A 22-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and had been released on police bail.

Police said that the facts relating to the death have been passed to the Crown Prosecution Service for consideration and a decision has been made that no further action should be taken against the arrested man. Mr Phillips' family has been informed.

A Norfolk police spokesman said the Joint Norfolk and Suffolk Major Investigation Team concluded that no criminal offences had been committed in relation to his death, and it is no longer being treated as suspicious. A file will now be passed to the coroner and a full inquest will be held at a later date.
