Police were called to the Tesco car park in Dereham yesterday after a concerned shopper spotted a dog had been left in a motorhome.
They were called at 10.30am as the caller was worried that the dog would be over-heating in the vehicle.
According to Met Office data the temperature in the town was around 26 degrees celsius at that time.
But a police spokesman said after assessment they determined there was no cause for concern.
She said: 'The vents had been left open and the blinds were down and the dog had plenty of fresh water. So in this instance we felt there were no concerns about the dog's welfare from our point of view.'
She said the fire service were not called and the dog was left inside the vehicle.
The RSPCA advises on never leaving your dog alone in a car on a warm day even if the windows are left open or they're parked in the shade.
A car can become as hot as an oven very quickly, even when it doesn't feel that warm.
When it's 22 degrees outside, in a car it can reach an unbearable 47 degrees within the hour.
