An appeal for information has been launched by police after a 62 year-old man was subjected to a 'nasty, unprovoked attack' on Christmas Eve.

The man was walking along Norwich Road, Wisbech, at around 11.45pm when he was approached by a man near the junction with Boyces Road.

'The victim was then punched in the face,' said a police spokesman.

The attacker is described as aged between 16 and 19, around 5'7' and slim, with short brushed forward black hair. He was wearing a waist length black jacket and black trousers.

The spokesman said: 'He is believed to have spoken with a foreign language.'

PC Justin Bielawski, who is investigating, said: 'This was a nasty, unprovoked attack on the victim who had been walking home after a night out.

'I'm particularly keen to speak to a man who is believed to have been walking down the street at the time of the incident.

'Anyone who thinks they may have information about who carried out this assault should not hesitate to get in touch.'

Anyone with information should contact PC Bielawski on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
