Education in Hethersett is to be revolutionised following a Norfolk County Council decision.

The council has decided to move ahead with plans to have the village's two infant and junior schools covert to all-through primary schools from 2019.

Hethersett Woodside school will also move to a new site within a new development in the village.

The move follows consultation with parents, governors and other stakeholders. The governing boards of both schools and the Diocese of Norwich are backing the plans.

Matt Dunkley, the county's interim director of children's services, said: 'Hethersett is a growing village and we want to ensure children living locally can benefit from the good schools that already exist within the community.

'By extending the current junior school and moving the current infant school to a new home, we will be able to build on what works in both existing schools.

'Children would also be able to stay at one school throughout their primary years, which we know benefits teaching and learning.'
