Marston's Inns and Taverns says up to 60 new jobs could be created at the outlet which it hopes to build at the Horn Hill roundabout, close to Asda, if its its plans win approval from Waveney District Council.

In its planning application, the Wolverhampton-based company says the restaurant would sit up to 180 people and offer 58 car parking spaces, including two spaces of disabled people and eight cycle stands.

If planning permission is granted, it says, it could be open by late summer next year.

In a design statement submitted to Waveney, the company states: 'Marston's Inns and Taverns has developed a range of community style public houses throughout the country, many on locations such as this. The proposed development will provide local residential and business communities with a convivial meeting place. It will also provide an excellent destination and stopping point for weary travellers looking for good value refreshment.'

Marston's planning submission also says the land where it hopes to build the new pub has no visual value and has already been set aside for development. Access to the pub will be off Kirkley Rise.

Mike West, from Marston's, the UK's largest independent brewer and pub operator, said: 'This is one of a number of new build pub restaurants we are building across the country. These pubs are spacious, top quality and provide a relaxing environment for people looking for somewhere comfortable to have a drink, or a family meal. We serve a variety of cask beers from our five regional breweries, as well as good quality, good value traditional pub meals.'

A spokesman for the company added: 'Marston's has just submitted a planning application to Waveney District Council for a two-for-one, 180 cover family pub restaurant on a parcel of land at Horn Hill in Lowestoft.

'If planning permission is granted, it is expected the pub will create between 50 and 60 full and part time jobs for the local economy with work planned to start late spring with a view to opening in the late summer of 2012.'

Marston's operates about 2,150 pubs natiowide and says it prides itself on its ethos of putting pubs at the forefront of the community. It is currently working on a three-year plan to build 60 pubs across the UK, which will sell a wide range of drinks including real ales produced by five breweries within the Marston's Beer Company.
