Preliminary planning permission has been granted to build up to 200 homes in Hopton.
Great Yarmouth Borough Council's development control committee has given the green light to an outline application for the construction of up to 200 homes, with associated works, open space and allotments, off Lowestoft Road.
The planning bid was put in by Norfolk County Council and covers 9.3 hectares of agricultural land which is surrounded to the north and east by residential developments.
The site for the homes had been assessed by a Local Plan working party looking at future development sites for homes.
The county council had said the land was 'generally acceptable for estate scale development' as the site is an acceptable location for the provision of local services and public transport. Hopton Parish Council raised no objections to the application.
