Community spirit came to the fore as hundreds of people turned out for a street procession and day of music.

A south Norfolk town was filled with dancing, singing and entertainment aplenty at a special Celebration of Light Festival yesterday (Saturday).

Illuminated costumes, a marching band, lanterns, dancers and even a dragon created an 'absolutely spectacular sight' as the Loddon and Chedgrave community event was hailed a success.

Organised by the Chet Carnival and Community Group, live entertainment from various local acts, an art and crafts fair, a childrens' entertainer and a small fairground all took centre stage in the afternoon before the parade from Chedgrave to Loddon in the early evening.

'There was a wonderful atmosphere and it really was a lovely event,' Maureen Larkin, who compered throughout the festivities, said. 'It's done a lot of good for the community as the parade has not happened for a couple of years.'

The live entertainment continued well into the night, and Mrs Larkin paid tribute to the committee, who'd also organised a VIP day for the elderly last Wednesday, a Hallowe'en comedy night last Friday and a fireworks display last night, as well as reviving the main parade.

'It's been a brilliant week,' she said.
