The sun shone on Diss today (Saturday) as scores of people took advantage of live music, dancing and stalls in celebration of the Queen's jubilee.

Bands including Backstreet, Walkway and The Cataclysmics entertained families as they had their faces painted, enjoyed barbecue food and indulged in a jubilee cupcake, or two.

The event was the idea of town councillor Oliver Pilsbury-Gaunt, supported by the town council, who said the event had brought the community together,

'We're just very pleased with the amount of people that have turned out,' he said. 'I don't think I've ever seen anything like this in the town before.

'I'll never see another diamond jubilee and neither will anyone else here so it means a lot to me. Sixty-years-ago people were having street parties, and we didn't really do anything for the royal wedding so I thought if I didn't do anything, nobody would.'

Fellow town councillor Beth Dewhurst said she would like to thank everybody who went along and added: 'People have said to me there's nothing to do in Diss so we're really trying to change that.'

Tomorrow, the festivities will continue with a Big Lunch in the park, music from Savannah Love, entertainment from Poz Magic and birds of prey displays between 10am and 4pm.
