An organisation dedicated to the rescue of marine animals in distress was called to Cromer beach today (Saturday) to an injured seal.

A team from the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) was called around 12pm today to help the mammal, which is believed to have hurt its flipper.

A spokesman from the coastguard said it is very common for seals to appear on the land and that they often received 999 calls about them.

'The mum often leaves the pups on the beach to go fishing,' he said.

'Or they often come to rest and enjoy the nice weather.'

He added that people do not need to be alarmed if they see a seal on the beach unless it appears to be injured or distressed.

BDMLR advises anyone who finds a marine mammal in need to watch it from a distance and to not approach the animal.
