Four-legged friends help raise cash for hospital

Dog-lovers from far and wide converged on Outwell at the weekend for a show to raise money for Wisbech hospital.

More than 100 dogs took part in a wide range of classes on Saturday and their owners raised around 600 for the hospital.

'We had a very good day. We didn't know how many people would come, what with the cost of petrol and everything,' said Margaret Buck, secretary of the village's Friends of Wisbech Hospital Committee.

But the organisers need not have worried as dogs of every shape and size arrived at the village's playing field to take part.

The terrier and lurcher classes even attracted entries from as far away as Derbyshire.

'We had some qualifying classes for them and they came from all over the place,' said Mrs Buck.

But for the less serious dog show lovers, there were classes including happiest dog, rescue dogs and junior handlers aged ten or under.

The committee is already making plans for next year's show.
