More than 7,500 women and girls ran, jogged, walked and laughed their way around Norwich's Race for Life over the weekend.

The popular Cancer Research UK event was this year based on the theme of Norwich versus cancer and there were three races held over Saturday and Sunday.

Fundraisers were out in force in pink-themed running gear and fancy dress, from baby pink pyjamas to hot pink feather boas, bunny ears and sparkly wigs.

The first 1,000 runners set off for a 10k run at the Norfolk Showground at 10am on Saturday, with 3,000 more running a 5k race at 2pm that day.

The final race was at 11am on Sunday morning and had more than 3,500 women making their way around the winding course at the showground.

The event is an emotional day for those taking part, many of whom write heart-rending messages on their back signs about why they have been motivated to take part.

Laura Lynn, from Horsford, ran the Race for Life for the first time on Sunday morning because she and other members of her family have the faulty BRCA1 gene, which means they have a higher risk of developing breast cancer.

The 27-year-old, who brought along her daughters Lucy, four, Nicole, one, and Sophie, three months, said: 'My twin sister had a double mastectomy two months ago because of this gene and that's what I'm facing.

'The more money they get for research and other things, then the more people it's going to help.

'A lot of people aren't even aware there is a faulty breast cancer gene.'
