Hundreds of classic cars have made their way to Lowestoft this morning with enthusiasts of the elegant looking cars gathering to admire them.

The Lowestoft Classic Vehicle Club is holding its 22nd rally at the home of Kirkley and Pakefield Football Club, off Walmer Road, until 4pm.

It is the first time in the club's history that it has held its rally in the town as previous events had been held at Fritton Lake, St Felix School in Reydon and Ditchingham.

Among the small army of classic cars and bikes were a 1904 Cadillac, 1935 Morris Eight Series 1 Tourer, a 1955 Austin Cambridge, Triumphs, Cortinas a VW camper vans.

Paul Silom, 63 of Oulton Broad, was proudly displaying his Triumph TR6 from 1969 which he had bought at the Henham Steam Rally for �9,000 in 2008.

He said: 'This is the last of the real Triumph racing cars, It was looked upon as a real man's car.'

Laurie Rooke, 78, of Kirkley Run, could be seen by his Riley Elf, which was made in 1965.

He said: 'It is just a wonderful car. When it came out it was like the Rolls Royce of Minis. It was way ahead of its time.'

Graham Chapman, chairman of the car club, said he was the pleased the rally could be held in Lowestoft for the first time.

He said: 'We like to support the town and put something back into the community.

'We are here now and hopefully we are here to stay.' As well as the vehicles on display, there are other events, such as dog agility show and dancers.
