Hundreds of rubber ducks took to one of Norfolk's tributaries yesterday for Attleborough Amateur Boxing Club's annual charity duck race.

The Good Friday event, which raises money for club funds, has been held near the town for the last three years.

More than 800 yellow ducks were released into a tributary of the River Thet, which this year will help raise funds for new heaters at the club's gym at Wood Farm, in Deopham Road.

Jeremy Burton, chairman of the Attleborough Amateur Boxing Club, said that despite the low water level, the duck race had proved another success.

He added that the club, which has grown to more than 100 members, was submitting grant applications to help improve its facilities, but it was 'fantastic' to raise their own funds.

'In these economic times, it is a really great effort to get that sort of money and it shows the spirit of the club,' he said.
