A Hilgay charity event is set to return with a four-pound burger eating challenge - the equivalent of 16 quarter pounders - to raise money for MENCAP.

Hilgay butcher Ali Dent is once again preparing a batch of giant Norfolk patties for contestants who are prepared to take part in his next burger eating challenge.

As well as the massive four-pound burgers, this time he has introduced a more manageable two-pound version for those who also want to take part in the challenge, but have a smaller appetite.

'Only one person finished the four-pound burger last time,' he said, 'so we decided to introduce a smaller version which is still an almighty challenge.'

Paul Bridges, of St Germans near King's Lynn, competed against 108 others and was the only person to complete the almighty four-pound 'Endurance' burger at the first challenge set in January 2012.

'I couldn't believe I was also the only person out of my four rugby team mates to finish the burger,' he laughed. 'More and more people were dropping out of the competition around me until there were only four of five of us left.

'Altogether it took me 57 minutes and 31 seconds to finish and it's great that all the money raised goes towards a good cause. But now I've earned the title, I won't be competing again.'

The contest will take place on March 28 at Hilgay Village Hall from 7:30pm. Entry fees are £10 for the two-pound burger challenge and £15 for the four-pound burger. Competitors can take part individually, or in teams of four. For more details, contact Mr Dent on 01366 387686.
