More than 1,000 visitors got up close with nature at an environmental fair near Norwich.

Wild About Norfolk celebrated creatures great and small, and other highlights of the countryside around us, at Easton and Otley College.

The fair, the 13th to have been held, gave children the chance to find out about wildlife through activities including examining owl pellets, playing with harvest mice and handling snakes.

The fair also included wildlife walks, tractor rides, badge-making, face-painting, quizzes, bird box-making, a tombola and short talks on nature and wildlife.

It was attended by the Norfolk Wildlife Trust, RSPB, and the British Trust for Ornithology, as well as local beekeepers, ramblers, young farmers and the Norfolk Tortoise Club.

Martyn Davey, head of land-based studies, said: 'Many attendees went home with bird boxes and the whole event was aimed at helping promote local wildlife charities while also championing environmental issues in the county. It was a pleasure to be involved.'
