Police in Dereham are warning residents to be on their guard after a phone scam was reported.

A caller posing as a representative from the police tried to sell advertisement space in a journal on November 30.

The target was suspicious and contacted the local Safer Neighbourhood Team, which confirmed that the journal did not exist.

Dereham PCSO Calum Chapman said: 'People should always be cautious of any cold caller asking for personal or financial details and tell the caller they will ring them back once they have checked they are genuine.'

If you have any concerns about phone scams, contact Norfolk Police on 0845 456 4567 or Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.
