Mobile phone users in Norfolk could receive better 4G signal if a new mast is built alongside the A11 in the hopes it will plug a blackspot.
Plans have been submitted to Breckland Council to build a Vodafone mast on a grass verge off of Brandon Road in Thetford.
The tower would be 20 metres tall with three antennas. The plans, submitted by Conerstone and Telefonica UK, said the "proposal is required to provide new and improved 3G and 4G service where currently there is a hole in high quality coverage".
Thetford Town councillor Mark Robinson said: "For people travelling along the A11 the blackspot can be an issue.
"If that can be filled then it will surely provide a benefit to the area."
The suppliers decided on the location after a number of grass verges along the Brandon Road and A11 were surveyed. Other areas were found to be too far from the coverage hole or near to surrounding properties.
The coverage blackspot is described as being along the A11, A1345 and the B1107. If the antennas were placed any lower Telefonica and Conerstone say the signal would not be able to go above trees.
The application has been put forward to Thetford Town Council for discussion at its planning committee meeting.
