The hare was revealed last night at the market town's memorial hall by mayor Hilary Bushell and is called Phareoh - spelled to incorporate the word 'hare'.

The sculpture was brought to the town on the 50th day of the year by charity supporters, Zest Car Rental.

Michael Rooney, head of commercial services at Break, said: 'The popularity of the GoGo trails in Norwich have been proven and Break are excited to extend the idea to a second trail around the county.

'Zest were quick to take up this opportunity to involve both local businesses and the community including our very own charity shop in the town centre. We cannot wait to see a flurry of trail hunters around many market towns in Norfolk, giving an opportunity to showcase what our great county has to offer.'

Phareoh was chosen by Zest's directors Rory and Pam Sexton.

Mr Sexton said: 'We loved this gold-class design.

'Sophie is very talented and has created an eye-catching moongazer that we know the people of Dereham will love. Norfolk has the Howard Carter connection so it's nice to honour that. There are also smaller elements of the design that pay homage to Dereham's history. Visitors will have to see if they can spot them.'
