Is there a Norfolk dialect? And if so, why?

Former Eastern Daily Press columnist Peter Trudgill will be revealing his thoughts on this part of our Norfolk heritage in a talk on March 15.

Norwich-born Professor Trudgill is an internationally-acclaimed academic and author on language and dialect.

He comes from a long-established Norfolk family, with all 16 of his great-great-grandparents born in the east of the county.

Professor Trudgill wrote his popular weekly column for the EDP until last year and now contributes to our sister paper, The New European, on language and languages in Europe. He has taught at universities across Europe and has published more than 30 books.

His talk, for the Brundall Local History Group, is on Thursday March 15 at 7.30pm at Brundall Memorial Hall, Links Avenue, and is open to all. Entry for non-members, who are welcome, is £2.50.
