If you’ve ever wanted to see a shooting star, now’s your chance.
This weekend keen stargazers will have the opportunity to witness the most famous of all meteor showers, the Perseid Meteor Shower.
The Perseid meteor shower takes place each year through July and August and is the result of particles falling from the Comet Swift-Tuttle, which orbits the sun every 133 years.
For 2017, The Met Office advises the best time to catch a glimpse of the shooting stars is between August 12-13 “with up to 100 meteors visible per hour”.
There will also be a good chance to spot meteors on Monday, August 14.
Experts advise heading out of towns and cities where light pollution may make it difficult to watch the shower. The Norwich Astronomical Society suggest visiting areas such as Mousehold Heath or the North Norfolk Coast for the best views.
Telescopes and other equipment are not needed for the meteor shower, however once outside it may take up to 20 minutes for your eyes to adjust properly to the darkness.
