Pensioner rescued from car in Salthouse pond

A pensioner had to be rescued from his car when it ended up in a roadside pond in north Norfolk.

The small saloon hit a pole and finished on its side in 2-3ft of water in the shallow pools beside the A149 coast road at Salthouse just before 1pm on Tuesday.

Firecrews from Sheringham and Holt spent half an hour rescuing the elderly man from the car.

Sheringham Watch Manager Gary Pegg said: 'We helped him out through the windscreen. He was walking wounded, but it could have been much worse if he had ended up upside down.'
