A pensioner who runs a takeaway in Great Yarmouth has described a break-in over the weekend as 'gut-wrenching'.

Kuk Chunas on Nelson Road North was broken into on Sunday, with suspects smashing the restaurant's glass door and stealing money before making off.

Peter High, 78, who runs the takeaway with his wife Kuk Chun, 58, said it was not the first time they have had to deal with an incident like this.

He said: 'It was gut-wrenching to find out this had happened. We have had our windows broken in the past, when all we want to do is run a business.

'It is lucky we don't keep notes in the shop overnight, but we still lost around a hundred pounds. We also have to deal with the cost of replacing the door, which is currently boarded up.'

Mr High, who has run the restaurant for seven years, said he is worried anti-social behaviour is impacting his business.

He said: 'It is very disconcerting. We also often have people standing outside the restaurant drinking, which I think might make people reluctant to come to us, particularly as we are slightly away from the town centre,

'This is the last thing we wanted to have to deal with. It doesn't create a nice environment for us to work in at all.'

Police have appealed for any potential witnesses to the break-in, which is thought to have happened between 4.45 and 5am on Sunday, March 19, to contact Great Yarmouth's safer neighbourhood team on 101.
