Late-night police bicycle patrols in Norwich have proved so successful that more officers are to be trained for a two-wheeled crackdown on crime.
Police have been on bicycle patrol in Norwich in the early hours of Saturday and Sunday to deal with problems as people leave the city's pubs and clubs.
Violent assaults, criminal damage and drunken disorder fell by 15pc since 24-hour drinking laws were introduced in November 2005, with the help of the bikes.
At a meeting of the Norwich City Centre Licensing Forum, PC Louise Grime said: "It's very good to use the bike because people don't always see or hear you coming - and you can usually hear them from a mile off."
