A 'very successful' programme will relaunch later this month with the aim of getting more families and young people outside and active.

ParkLives will return in Lowestoft from Monday, May 14 with a series of free activities being offered to all in a popular park.

Sentinel Leisure Trust and Catch22 Suffolk Positive Futures have teamed up once more with Coca Cola and Street Games UK to deliver #ParkLives Lowestoft – a free and easy way for you to get the best out of your local park.

Now in its third year, ParkLives Lowestoft returns every Monday, except for bank holidays, from 5pm to 6pm at Normanston Park.

With activity being delivered by coaches from Catch22 Suffolk Positive Futures, these free activities include football, rounders and multisports.

A Sentinel Leisure Trust spokesman said: 'The ParkLives programme has been very successful in previous years as it aims to get families and young people more physically active outside in all weathers.'

This year the programme has been boosted with £1,500 of funding being made available by Suffolk County councillor Stephen Ardley, through the locality budget, to help develop the project for this year and beyond.

Mr Ardley said: 'This programme of free activity will enable a variety of ages to engage in sport and physical activity without the sometimes expensive costs that sport and physical activity brings. What makes it even better is come rain or shine the ParkLives programme is designed to get children and young people outdoors and enjoying the green spaces Lowestoft has to offer.'

In addition to the funding, Lowestoft Town Council has granted free use of Normanston Park for the duration of the project as they are keen to see youngsters being healthier and more active with their families.

Tim Passmore, Suffolk Police and Crime Commissioner, added: 'Suffolk Positive Futures is invaluable and absolutely key to my Police and Crime Plan for Suffolk. I have spent some time seeing first-hand the work of the project and am very impressed with the leaders and the work they are doing.'
