Sprowston Park-and-Ride will remain closed on Thursday because of severe flooding and a problem with electricity on site caused by heavy rain over the weekend.

The site has been closed since Monday.

Four tanker loads of standing water have been drained from the area so far, but it is estimated that a total of 20 tanker loads of water needs to be shifted.

The water prevents cars from entering the car park and a flooded underground chamber has also caused the electricity supply to short out.

According to the Met Office, Sprowston saw 78mm of rain between Sunday and this afternoon - the equivalent of seven weeks' worth of rain in 72 hours.

The county council is working on a long-term solution and remedial work is provisionally scheduled for the summer to help resolve the flooding problem when it rains heavily.

The other park-and-ride sites at the airport, Costessey, Harford, Thickthorn and Postwick are open as normal.
