Paramedics restarted a man's heart after he went into cardiac arrest at a Great Yarmouth building society.
Emergency services were called to Santander in Market Place just before 11.30am yesterday.
The casualty, a man in his sixties was flown to hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest, with the air ambulance landing at the coach station.
A volunteer critical care paramedic from Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS) was mobilised to the scene to assist paramedics from the East of England Ambulance Service.
The SARS paramedic applied an automated chest compression system to the patient and managed to restart the patient's heart.
Specialist drugs were used to stabilise the patient before calling in a helicopter from the East Anglian Air Ambulance to transfer the patient to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.
The patient is today believed to be in a serious but stable condition.
Crowds of people had formed outside Santander, and the ambulance service requested help from the police to keep them back.
Rumours began to circulate on social media that Santander had been robbed, but police stressed that this was not the case and officers were there to help with crowd control.
