Dog walkers are being warned to keep an eye out on beaches in the borough of Great Yarmouth as they are with their pets following the discovery of palm oil on beaches.
Great Yarmouth Borough Council is appealing to dog walkers to be vigilant following a number of reports of palm oil being washed up on the coastline from Caister through to Scratby.
Palm oil, which comes in solid white lumps, can be toxic to dogs if ingested.
While the borough council does not have direct responsibility for the beaches where palm oil has so far been reported, council officers will be monitoring these beaches and removing any deposits they find.
If people find any deposits, they can report them to GYBS on 01493 742200.
The same warning has been issued by North Norfolk District Council after lumps of the oil have been reported on beaches between Bacton and Mundesley.
