An art deco-inspired painting harking back to the seaside railway posters of the 1920s is to feature on the cover of this year's Cromer Carnival brochure, as the hugely popular annual event celebrates its 50th anniversary.

Entitled Summer of 69, the picture, by Cromer-based artist Samuel Thomas, shows a family looking out across the clifftops over the pier and the beach, with the town's lifeboat seen in the distance and carnival regulars the Red Arrows performing stunts across an evening sky.

Mr Thomas, whose work will be on show at the Garden House Gallery during carnival week, said the painting, which is available as a limited edition print, aimed to depict the "joy and vibrancy" of the town.

He added: "This special piece captures the nostalgia, charm and beauty of Cromer, including the Red Arrows and other aircraft that regularly perform at the carnival."
