Houses evacuated as firefighters tackle blaze

Residents were evacuated from their houses in Outwell as firefighters tackled a blaze in agricultural outbuildings.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service were called at 4.22pm on Saturday to the buildings off the A1101 Wisbech Road.

Crews from Downham Market, King’s Lynn and March attended.

Police were first on the scene and evacuated the area and did an initial check of the buildings to make sure no one was trapped.

The road was closed while the fire service deal with the fire and people were asked to avoid the area.

The East of England Ambulance Service Trust were called to the scene as a precaution.

Pc Rod Morrison from Downham Market police praised the efforts of police, fire and ambulance service.

Fire crews were called back to Outwell at 10.32pm to deal with a trees and undergrowth on fire on Marsh Road.

Appliances from Outwell, Downham Marker, Wisbech and the water carrier from Fakenham attended.
