A special project held during the summer holidays has been hailed as an inspirational success.
Children based on Orwell Housing Association’s Whiting Road, in Oulton Broad, recently took part in an art project to decorate the walls of a new play area.
They joined forces with artist ‘Stane’ – who is also known as Carl Wright – to transform the play area facility.
Following a successful grant application to the East Suffolk Young People’s Action Group (ESYPAG), Orwell Housing Association were able to organise art sessions at Whiting Road in Oulton Broad, during the school summer holidays.
The applications were judged by a group of young people aimed at improving the opportunties of young people in East Suffolk – with the emphasis on gaining new skills, gaining experience and confidence.
The graffiti artist from Great Yarmouth, Carl Wright – who goes by the name of Stane – ran the sessions to help young people on the estate come up with ideas and use spray paint to create some amazing artwork for the walls.
The three artwork boards that were produced will be used to decorate the walls of a new play area, named by the children as Sunrise Park.
Sunrise Park, was officially opened in April by Oulton Parish councillor John Grist.
One of the teenagers who lives on the estate, 13-year-old Aimee, said: “It was really fun and different.
“It is something you would not normally get the chance to do and I really enjoyed it.”
Mr Wright (Stane) said: “I was delighted to be involved with this fantastic project.
“I am so passionate about giving young people the opportunity to express themselves and to be able to get involved in art.
“Art is a way to get children away from their computers and phones and to be in a situation where they are interacting with each other in person as well as doing something creative and worthwhile.”
