Volunteers from the Friends of Nicholas Everitt Park (FONEP) cleaned and repainted the sheltered seating area at the park in Oulton Broad recently, with pupils from the Ashley School Academy Trust working hard in class to create a large and colourful mural.

And during a special ceremony last week, the makeover was unveiled during an event to commemorate the project.

A FONEP spokesman said: “The key stage three pupils have been working on the mural over the last few months with their art teacher, Harriet Chambers. It consists of four 8ft x 4ft panels and has been created using more than 7,000 plastic bottle tops, 50 crisp packets, 10 Easter Egg foil wrappers, 50 plastic straws, 20 pen lids and 100 buttons.

Last Thursday, October 11 the completed project was commemorated as the pupils unveiled a plaque, detailing their involvement, and following the unveiling refreshments were served in the bowls pavilion.

The spokesman added: “The Friends of Nicholas Everitt Park volunteer group would like to say a huge thank you to the pupils and their teacher for all their hard work. Sincere thanks also to Oulton Broad Parish Council and Waveney Norse for their help and support with the project.”
