An opportunity has become available to serve as a town councillor in Dereham.

Haydn Rogers has resigned as representative for the Toftwood ward.

He said: 'With the pressure of my commitments locally, and conflict of interest between Dereham Town Council and some of these commitments, I feel, after six years, it is time to stand down from the council.

'I want to concentrate on those other things including Dereham Carnival and Dereham Theatre Company where I feel I am able to work more directly for the benefit of Dereham.'

For an election to be called, 10 people need to write to Breckland Council to formally request one by Monday, July 10.

If this does not happen, Dereham Town Council can co-opt a new councillor onto the council. Requests for an election should be sent, in writing, to The Returning Officer, Breckland Council, Elizabeth House, Walpole Loke, Dereham, NR19 1EE.
