They have their starter pack, the scissors are in hand and the box is ready to take the tokens.

The Open Norwich youth charity is determined to be in with a chance of collecting ba cash handout from the Community Chest campaign in January.

If selected by the five judges, the group hopes to receive £1871.28 to buy some new climbing equipment.

Grainne Buckley, fundraising manager, said: 'The money is for our climbing wall. We would use it for harnesses and equipment, as our current equipment is 10 years old and needs to be replaced.'

The climbing wall is used for group bookings, climbing courses and birthday parties - but a big part of its aim is to help disabled or disadvantaged people.

She added: 'It helps children get fit and stay active and helps them to build self esteem, confidence and trust. Our equipment means that we can get everyone to the top.'

With the aid of mechanical device, instructors at Open are able to make sure everyone can make the 12-metre climb, regardless of ability.

The money could help the group to buy a range of equipment including harnesses, helmets and slings.
