'Cyril had the imagination and energy to promote the work of the trust and was a friend and valued colleague of Richard Kenyon the founder. Following Richard's death, Cyril carried on his work as he had promised.

'We remember him with affection and thanks.'

?Chris Green, secretary, Wroxham Football Club: 'We would like to pay tribute to Cyril Durrant who was a vice-president and staunch supporter of Wroxham Football Club.

'Cyril always had a smile on his face and wanted to know how we were getting on. He helped the club by offering his barn for fund-raising events as he did for several other organisations.

'His experience with the Sports Council (now Sport England) was invaluable when we were seeking grants for our ground improvements. He will be greatly missed.'

?Former school friend Peter Collett. Tangmere, Chichester

West Sussex: 'News of Cyril's death , came to me via a class mate, Mike Barker, now living in Poringland. We were three of some 30 beginning in 1943, our years at Paston Grammar School, North Walsham, all in the same class.

'Cyril joined me on the No. 9 bus from Norwich at Tunstead level crossing each morning , and so it would be over the next five years, day in, day out , all weathers including deep snow.

'We were together in the school army cadet corps band. Cyril a bugler, myself a drummer, Mike big drummer, but eventually drum major.

'We all sang in the school production of HMS Pinafore.

We all went our various ways after National Service, Cyril back into farming, Mike into Customs and Excise , myself , teaching in Portsmouth for 40 years.

'Not meeting again until 2004 , 200th Anniversary of Trafalgar (Nelson, Paston old boy), and 2006 , 400th Anniversary of the founding of the school.

'Cyril then in his prime , ebullient and outward going as always . His work in the county is second to none .

A good man ..... and a good pal.'
