Have you ever wondered what your MP actually does?

From today, thanks to the marvels of modern technology, people in Norwich will be able to see exactly when Ian Gibson is in his constituency and what he is doing.

The former chairman of the Commons science and technology select committee has a link from his website to a special Google map which details his location and what he is doing, and also gives the public directions to find the venue, if they need it.

For example, if you click on June 3, you will find Dr Gibson presented prizes at a football tournament in Old Catton.

Dr Gibson has also invested in a digital camera and will be updating with photographs of the events he attends in Norwich North.

"It will help inform people looking at the website about what their elected representative is up to and will give them some idea of how I carry out my duties and cover various parts of my constituency over a period of time," he said.

"Not everything I do is recorded in the media but this is a way to show people. I will carry the camera with me and then update the bubble with pictures."

His website is the envy of fellow MPs who are perhaps not so up to date but Dr Gibson confesses it is his assistant Tom Davis who is behind the new additions to the site.

"I have talked to other MPs about it and they think it is a good idea. I have had a look at other MPs' websites but I have not seen anything like mine," he said.

"Tom is very keen on IT, which helps. The number of people who look at the website is amazing. I also do a blog and I hadn't updated for a month and people were phoning me to ask what was wrong."
