A Norwich man whose life was saved by Great Ormond Street Hospital as a child is taking part in a Where's Wally tattoo challenge to help severely ill children.

Tattoo artist Rytch Soddy who owns Sith on Dereham Road, started the 24-hour challenge yesterday at 12noon.

He will take just short breaks while drawing a Norwich scene where Wally will be hidden on his friend John Mosley's back.

Mr Soddy, 35, said that his friend has said that he wanted the scene, but that it would cost too much, so he offered to do it if he could raise at least 500 in sponsorship for charity.

He chose GOSH because his life had been saved by the hospital when he was stung by a bee as a child.

'The daughter of a friend of mine also had an operation on her heart there last year', he said.

The pair has already raised 1,500 in sponsorship for Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) as part of the challenge.

Mr Mosley, 22, said that many friends and their siblings had been helped by the hospital.

'I thought about the pain I would be going through during the tattoo and it is nothing in comparison to what they are going through and not out of choice,' he said.

He added that the longest he had ever spent having a tattoo created was eight hours. photo: bill smith
