A café at Norwich train station could be replaced by a well-known name, planning papers reveal.

A planning application has been submitted to Norwich City Council to remove the Pumpkin Café at the train station and replace it with a Marks and Spencer Simply Food retail unit.

The new café would be the same size as the Pumpkin unit, with the entrance kept in the same place.

The planning documents, published earlier this week, say that the station sees roughly two and a half million visitors pass through it every year.

They say: 'The proposed M&S Simply Food will benefit passengers, providing a retail experience within the station concourse area.'

In January, the brand announced it planned to close eight stores around the UK, while it previously announced it would slow its expansion plans for its Simply Food stores.

In total, 36 new Simply Food units will open over the next few months.
