The skies over Norwich were illuminated tonight as a colourful fireworks display burst into life.

Part of the Lord Mayor's Celebration, the fireworks were launched from Norwich Castle at about 10.30pm.

Thousands gathered outside City Hall and around Norwich to watch the 15-minute display.

Before it began, Norwich City Council announced the winners of the best float prize after today's Lord Mayor's procession, which wound through the city earlier this afternoon.

A panel of judges - Ruth Knapp of Moosey Arts, Lakehnam Primary School pupil Alana Sweeney, Pasco-Q Kevlin of Norwich Art Centre and Alex Darbyshire of the Norfolk and Norwich Festival - crowned Framtastics Gymnastics Club the overall winner, with the Federation of Angel Road Schools coming in second place and Chermond Gymnastics and Activity Centre in third.

The runners up were Catton Grove Primary School, The Common Lot and InTouch Systems.
