The theatrical spell of Shakespeare will be cast upon Norwich Cathedral once more as the festival celebrating the great wordsmith returns to the historic city venue.

Theatre company The Lord Chamberlain's Men will bring an all-male performance of Twelfth Night to the stunning cloisters in July for the Shakespeare Festival 2015.

Shakespeare's romantic comedy tells the story of twins who are washed up on the coast of Illyria in a comic tale of tangled love stories and mistaken identity.

Mark Puddle, creative producer for The Lord Chamberlain's Men, said: 'Twelfth Night has always been one of Shakespeare's funniest plays and I can't think of anything more perfect for a summer's evening than a classical retelling of this great comedy, set against the backdrop of one of the nation's most beautiful attractions.'

Last year the festival saw Romeo and Juliet and Much Ado About Nothing performed on the city stage, but this year because theatre company Shakespeare's Globe was unable to return, just one show over two days will run. Two shows over four days will return next year.

James Shelton, marketing manager at the cathedral, said: 'We're delighted at the prospect of once again welcoming hundreds of people to the cathedral in July, to enjoy this year's Shakespeare Festival and the performance of Twelfth Night.

'For those who are yet to experience an open-air Shakespearean performance in the cloisters, featuring full Elizabethan costume and traditional music and dance, it really is something special and undoubtedly one of the hottest tickets of the summer.'

Tickets go on sale today and are priced at £20 for adults and £17 for concessions (over 60s, students and under-16s). They are available at www.cathedral.org.uk, the Norwich Theatre Royal box office (01603 630 000) or the cathedral gift shop (01603 218 323).
