Too much competition and poor weather have been blamed for the cancellation of what would have been the seventh annual comedy festival at the well-known Golden Triangle pub, The Unthank Arms.

The event was due to be held from July 17 to 21, but Nick De'Ath, owner of the pub in Newmarket Street, said it would be back next year.

He said: 'We have had low sales so we decided to cancel it, but it will come back next year, so it's not stopping.

'There are huge amounts of other things going on at present, with the Olympics, etc. and it has not stopped raining for a lot of time, which has affected sales.'

He said ticket-holders should contact the people who sold them the tickets to get refunds.

The event has previously attracted up to 250 comedy lovers each night and some of the UK's best comedians have appeared in the past.
