Taverham Vets, in Norwich, has spent thousands of pounds creating the new areas to make sure its furry visitors get the best possible care and now cats and dogs are enjoying their five star treatment.

The £50,000 investment has helped to provide hydrotherapy treatment for dogs, where the animal goes into a chamber which fills with water and helps to solve spinal problems and lessen the symptoms of old age through movement.

Guy Pitcher, one of three directors at Taverham Vets, said: 'I think it is the only one of its kind in the area and the underwater treadmill is a more specialised way of rehabilitation.'

The cat hotel at the vet's Longwater branch on Longwater Lane in Costessey, is the only purpose built cattery in the county.

Created on a spare floor in the building, while owners are away, their feline friends can spend their time there being looked after by nurses - one of whom lives in a flat on site.

Mr Pitcher added: 'I think it will be great, it is run by the veterinary nurses which gives people piece of mind that their cats will be looked after by qualified professionals. Cats who need medicines and looking after can be, such as we have some diabetic cats which need insulin and our nurses can give it to them, it is all part of their training.'
