A woman who drowned in a Norwich river was on day release from a mental health hospital, an inquest heard today.
Susan Hill, 65, was a patient at Hellesdon Hospital but went to see her husband Richard on January 23.
The marital home was in Anchor Quay, Norwich, and the pair had lunch that day.
Jacqueline Lake, senior coroner for Norfolk, said that Mrs Hill went out for a cigarette and then 'went into the river'.
She was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (N&N) where she was pronounced dead, with the initial medical cause of death given as drowning.
The inquest was adjourned to August 25 for a full hearing.
